Gold is trading around $4,370 an ounce, and silver just dropped roughly 3% in a single session ahead of US inflation data. If you hold metals — or you're waiting on a pullback to buy — you already know the problem: the move you care about almost never happens while you're looking at the chart.
A price alert fixes that. Here's how to set one up so it pings your Telegram, for free, in about two minutes.
Why Telegram beats an app notification
Most price-alert tools live inside a mobile app. That means you need to install it, keep it logged in, and hope the notification isn't buried under everything else on your phone.
Telegram is different. It's already open on your phone and your desktop, notifications actually arrive, and the message is plain text you can read in one glance. Nothing to install, nothing to keep logged in.
Step 1 — Write the level where you'd actually act
Before touching any tool, decide the number. Not the number you're hoping for — the number that would make you do something. For gold right now that's usually one of two things:
- a breakout level above the current range, or
- a pullback level where you'd add.
Step 2 — Set both sides at once
This is the part most people skip. A single alert like "gold above $4,450" only covers half of what could happen. Set a fence instead:
GOLD > 4,450 OR GOLD < 4,250
Either leg fires, something real changed and you go look. Neither leg fires, you don't open a chart all week. That second half is the actual benefit — a good alert buys you the right to ignore the market.
Step 3 — Combine conditions if you hold more than gold
Metals move together, and that's information. If you hold both gold and silver, the condition worth knowing is when both break down at once:
GOLD < 4,250 AND SILVER < 62
Both legs together is a genuine risk-off move in metals. Gold dipping on its own is usually just noise around a data release. A single-price alert physically cannot express the difference — a conditional one can.
Step 4 — Point it at Telegram
On DoneRoad you write the rule, see a plain-English preview of what it means, connect Telegram once, and you're done. It watches the price for you and messages you the moment the condition is true. Email works too if you'd rather keep Telegram quiet.
A few rules that make alerts useful
- Set the level where your thesis is wrong, not the level you're hoping for.
- If you can't say in one sentence what you'll do when it fires, don't set it.
- Don't set five alerts on the same asset. You'll stop reading them by Thursday.
- Revisit after it fires. An alert that fired and meant nothing is a level you chose badly.
