How to Set a Gold Price Alert on Your Phone (Free, No App Needed)

Gold moves in long, quiet stretches and then rips 2% in an afternoon. If you're watching XAUUSD manually, you'll catch the boring days and miss the one that mattered. Here's how to set a free gold price alert that reaches your phone in seconds — without installing another app.

Why most gold alerts fail you

Three common setups, three common problems:

  • Broker platform alerts — they only fire while the platform is open, and most brokers cap how many you can have.
  • Finance apps — push notifications get buried under news alerts you never asked for, so you learn to ignore the badge.
  • TradingView free tier — solid alerts, but the free plan limits how many active ones you get, and gold is rarely the only thing you're watching.

The other issue: gold traders rarely care about a single number. You care about a range — a breakout level above and an invalidation level below. Most tools make you create two separate alerts and then remember to delete both.

The setup that actually works: one rule, two levels

Instead of a single price alert, write one rule that covers both sides of your thesis:

IF XAUUSD > 3450 OR XAUUSD < 3280 → notify me

That's it. If gold breaks out, you hear about it. If it breaks down and your idea is dead, you hear about that too. One rule, no chart watching in between.

How to set it up in 2 minutes

  1. Go to doneroad.com and create a free account — no card, no download.
  2. Pick Gold (XAUUSD) as your asset.
  3. Add your first condition: price above your breakout level.
  4. Click OR and add the second: price below your invalidation level.
  5. Read the plain-English preview to confirm it says what you meant.
  6. Connect Telegram (one click) and/or email, then save.

When either condition is true, the alert lands on your phone via Telegram. No app to install — you already have Telegram.

Going further: combine gold with the dollar

Gold rarely moves alone. If you trade the DXY relationship, you can require both to be true at once:

IF XAUUSD > 3450 AND DXY < 103 → notify me

That filters out breakouts happening purely on dollar weakness noise, and only pings you when the setup you actually trade is on the table.

How to pick your levels

Don't pick round numbers because they look tidy. Use the levels you'd actually act on: the high of the last consolidation, the swing low that would invalidate your bias, or the point where your position size stops making sense. If a level isn't worth an alert, it probably isn't worth a trade.

Set it once, then close the chart

The point of an alert isn't to trade more — it's to stop refreshing. Set your two levels on Sunday, and the market can tell you when it's your turn.
